New Overtime Rules Put On Hold

The new Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime rule was scheduled to go into effect on December 1st. Yesterday, a federal judge in Texas issued an injunction which has delayed the rule from going into effect until further legal proceedings.

We have been working with many of you over the past few months to prepare for the new rule. For those of you who have already made changes or have pending changes, we will be reaching out to you directly.

What does this mean for you?

  • You do not need to implement the changes by the Dec 1 deadline. The injunction has effectively put the new overtime rule on hold until the court hears the case and makes a ruling.
  • If you have already implemented the new overtime rule, consider leaving it in place. We empathize with you and your employees as you have prepared for the Dec 1 deadline. As you may have already communicated the changes with your employees, you should consider what will result in the least disruption in the workplace
